Description
Here we have one gorgeous 1960's hand painted eight panel room divider from Korea. The folding room divider traces it's roots back to Han China (206 BCE-220 CE) where they were originally created with very intricate art depicting nature, court society, or mythology. This screen is a mid century example of a Han revival style divider. The frame is a dark red rosewood construction, wrapped with canvas on the inside to create a backing for the gold silk backing on the front of the piece. placed in the center of each panel is a hand painted scene of a mountain river. Each section of 2 panels shows the same mountain stream scene, in each of the four seasons, with budding trees in spring, lush greenery in summer, colorful leaves in autumn, and snowy barren peaks in winter. Most of these screens have not survived to this day without sustaining heavy damage to the delicate rice paper or silk backing, often unrepairable. There are only some small spots of discoloration seen in the rice paper, mainly in the summer panel and bottom left of the silk. Overall, this piece is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and proper use. The piece would be a lovely option for anyone needing a large to medium room divider and stores easily in a closet, making this a great option for homes where space is at a premium.Dimensions: 140" to 17.5" wide - 67" tall - 5.5" deep
