    PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
    MATINGMARK RAM MILD CRAYONS
    Ram Marking Crayons are an essential management tool at breeding time.  The colored crayons can be used in several ways to indicate the status and fertility of your flock.
    TEMPERATURES:
    Hot= Over 85 Degrees Fahrenheit
    Mild= 65-85 Degrees Fahrenheit
    Cold= Below 65 Degrees Fahrenheit
    Use crayons to indicate parentage:
    Allocating a marker crayon color
    to each ram working in a field shows which rams are working and which ewes he has served.  If a ram has not marked any ewes this could indicate potential fertility problems.
    Use crayons to forecast lambing dates:
    By using crayon colours in sequence, it is possible to identify when ewes will lamb and group them in accordance.  It can also help to forecast busier periods during lambing when additional labour may be required.  Start with paler coloured crayons first, such as yellow and then darker crayons for subsequent cycles.
    Use crayons to identify barren ewes:
    Ewes not bearing a mark may not have taken to the ram, to cut the costs of housing and/or feed over the winter months these ewes could be sold off.
    This information will show you which weeks the ewes will lamb in, important information to plan feeding and monitoring.  The information is not perfect of course so you should continue to be suspicious of ewes that are supposed to be in later lambing groups that are bagging up rapidly.
    Crayons have several distinct advantages over traditional raddle:
    Raddle is messy and has to be re-applied two to three times a week to be completely effective, crayons, under average conditions, will last approximately two weeks.
    Crayons come in a much wider range of colors which extends their management potential.
    With crayons, false mounts can result in a pale mark but usually after a completed service a good strong mark will be left.
    Mating Mark Crayons, developed in New Zealand, with their simple click in and out system, saves time and mean that on most occasions you don’t even need to turn the ram over to change the crayon, just slide out the spent crayon and insert a new one.
    The Mating Mark Harness is made from broad, adjustable straps which keep the crayon in place, with crossover straps moulding around the brisket.  Instead of buckles the harness is fastened around the animal using ‘quick clips’ and has adjustable length straps.
    Mating Mark Crayons are available in six bright colours.  The crayon cases and the crayon holder on the harness are profiled so that the crayon slides in to the holder and clicks into place.  The ‘click in’ design eliminates the need for fiddly cotter pins and tools to exchange the crayon and in many cases means it is not necessary to turn the ram over to replace the crayon, this saves time, reduces stress for the ram and lowers the risk of injury to the ram or shepherd.
