Fabric we us
e
is a
Cotton/Poly Blend fabric. This makes them quiet, weatherproof, water repellent, versatile, durable, UV Protection to help prevent sun fading and light weight. The Cotton/Poly blend has enough weight and rigidity so it doesn't flop in the wind like other very light weight fabrics do.
Reason(s) you shouldn't use Burlap:
Burlap stinks
From the start, burlap smells musty. After exposing the fabric to the outdoors the smell gets more pungent and produces mildew. As you know by now, smells are one of the most important attributes we can try to eliminate when hunting to reduce the possibility of being detected.
Burlap is hard to clean
You can't just throw burlap into the washing machine and expect to get the same fabric back. Burlap thrown into a washing machine has the potential to distort severely. It can be
cleaned and the odor might be able to be removed
with gentle care. But as a hunter.. Who has time for that?
Burlap doesn't print well on
Burlap is a very coarse, organic fabric. With the rough, inconsistent texture getting a quality camo pattern print is next to impossible. Most hunters prefer to see vibrant natural patterns that are consistent with the rest of their hunting gear and mimic the surround foliage. Burlap doesn't come close to resembling nature with it's large woven gaps between the threads and the dark dim coloration printed.
Burlap deteriorates and decomposes
Since burlap is organic it will start to decompose and deteriorate once exposed to the elements. This will cause the fabric to stink, fall apart and lose print details. It triples in weight as it absorbs water making it heavy to carry and requiring it to be thoroughly dried before storing. Burlap is made from jute (a plant based material) that quickly breaks down with sunlight and water.
Burlap is not a waterproof or water resistant fabric
This is a no-brainer. Burlap is a loosely woven fabric which in no way can repel water.
Burlap does not hide your movement
With the large fabric threads, your moment behind burlap are very detectable to any game animal. One of the two most important senses an animal possess is sight - movement is a huge attractant to warn animals from danger. The wind or scent blocking sprays may fool an animals nose, but it's sight keeps it safe from harm. You can see through burlap material.
Burlap doesn't last more than 1-year
With the
deterioration
and lose of color from use, burlap often becomes a single year use blind and having you repurchase another one next season.
