    Description

This enchanting Japanese fan is meticulously hand painted on a double paper leaf with a central cloud-shaped vignette of two girls wearing kimono and playing in a garden. One girl is holding a bird cage. The other two vignettes, in blue, depict mountains and pine trees in snow. The reverse is gold and silver flecked paper. The 16 bamboo sticks are stenciled with a floral and arabesque design. The brass loop is finished with a tassel. The fan is 11" in length and 20" across when fully opened.
Are the girls freeing a bird or trying to catch one?  This lovely fan is part of a large collection of antique Japanese fans given to us to sell for the benefit of our library.
Good condition for age. Colors are bright. A little wear along the edges and creasing. No tears; a few spots of discoloration. The pivot is loose so the sticks wobble a bit.
