This is motion picture film that I spool. A beautiful cinematic look with detail resolving. This is my favorite type of film, and I thought I would offer in a pack for people to try out and see if they like them too. 500T is flexible and retain highlights extremely well when processed in its native ECN-2 chemistry. It's a wonderful neutral palette to have available in your creative kit. If you want a break from other stocks, try these out - they may inspire a new found love in shooting as it did for me. The 500T has versatility. I shoot it in daylight with an 85 filter, which balances the 3200K film to daylight. At night I'll take off the 85 filter and use it at EI 500 and capture portraits indoors, or on the street under tungsten light sources. If you don't use an 85 filter under 5500K the images will have a blue tint to them, which can be a nice creative effect. Also, when using the 85, you'll need to expose for ISO 320 instead of 500.
Try these out and see the latitude and colors this can bring to your work!
How Do I Develop ECN-2?
1. I recommend developing in its native ECN-2 process to retain details and experience it's true colors. All the sample images in this listing are processed this way. I sell ECN-2 kits as well, so be sure to check those out!
2. ECN-2 is popularizing quickly. Labs are beginning to catch on and it's less difficult to find a lab that can handle ECN-2. If you don't have time to process it at home in ECN-2, send it out to any of these labs!
ECN-2 Labs
Boutique Film Lab - Juliet, TN
The Camera Shop - St. Cloud, MN
Old School Photolab - Dover, NH
Blue Moon Camera - Portland, OR
Color Lab - Rockville, MD
3. Another way to develop is in a C-41 developing kit. One may experience a slight color shift since Kodak manufactures this for ECN-2 processing, but it can be corrected during scanning or editing software.
What does the Remjet Coating do?
VISION3 stock uses an acetate safety base, or a "remjet coating" for two reasons.
1. It helps absorb the highlights and resolves the halation effect. Retaining the highlights is a strength of this emulsion.
2. It helps the film slide through the camera and acts as an anti-static agent.
This film is engineered for motion picture cameras, Star Wars, There Will Be Blood, and other great films rely on this stock! The carbon that's on it (which is basically pencil led) comes off easy with prebath. The high alkaline solution loosens up the carbon and the preceding wash then removes it.
It must be removed before processing otherwise it will contaminate the your chemicals.
I hope you enjoy these, and happy shooting! Thank you for supporting U.S. small business!
